“A Successful Model for Economic Cross-Border Cooperation” The main objective of the project is to establish an effective cross-border model for business support and create conditions for the enhancement of the economic competitiveness in the border region through the joint initiatives of the development of a free zone in Pernik and the free zone in Pirot which will facilitate the access of Bulgarian and Serbian goods and products to the large markets of the EU countries and Russia.
The specific objectives of the current action include increasing the regional economic potential of the two municipalities by developing zones which would impact the whole export business of Bulgaria and Serbia, strengthening the links with the private sector developers from the two neighboring countries, promotion of the economic opportunities offered by the free zones and attraction of local and foreign investments to the municipalities of Pernik and Pirot, increasing the local capacity of the municipality of Pernik for implementing joint initiatives and building regional capacity for absorption of EU funded programmes.
